Overview

What is VDI, and what is DaaS?

Virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) hosts users' desktops centrally — in the cloud or on servers — instead of on their local machines; desktop as a service (DaaS) delivers that same virtual desktop as a fully managed cloud subscription. Either way, the desktop your people use runs somewhere secure and central, and they simply connect to it from any device.

What makes this powerful is where the data lives. With virtual desktops, the operating system, applications and files all stay in the cloud — nothing sits on the endpoint. So a lost or stolen laptop is an inconvenience, not a breach; a contractor can be productive on their own machine without your data ever touching it; and onboarding is as fast as assigning a desktop. It's the natural answer to hybrid work, BYOD and secure access.

Billow delivers cloud desktops on Microsoft's platform — Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) for flexible, cost-optimized multi-session VDI, and Windows 365 for simple, predictable per-user Cloud PCs. We design, deploy and manage the environment so you get secure remote desktop access from anywhere — a modern cloud desktop without the complexity that made traditional VDI and remote desktop setups hard.

What's included

Virtual desktops, designed and delivered

Our VDI and DaaS services cover the whole journey — choosing the right approach, building it, securing it and running it.

Azure Virtual Desktop

Flexible, multi-session VDI on Azure — full Windows desktops and apps, scaled and cost-optimized to your usage.

Windows 365 Cloud PC

Simple, predictable per-user Cloud PCs — each person gets a dedicated Windows desktop reachable from any device.

Design & assessment

We assess your users, apps and budget to choose the right mix of AVD and Windows 365 — no over-engineering.

Security & access control

Conditional access, MFA and data controls so desktops are reachable from anywhere but only by the right people.

Cost & performance tuning

Right-sizing, autoscaling and session management to keep the experience fast and the cloud bill under control.

Management & support

Ongoing operation of the environment — image updates, scaling, monitoring and user support — handled for you.

Why virtual desktops

If the data never touches the device, the device can't leak it.

That single fact is why virtual desktops win for secure, flexible work. The desktop lives in the cloud; the endpoint is just a window into it. Lose the laptop, lose nothing.

Secure by design

Data stays in the cloud, not on endpoints — a lost or compromised device exposes nothing, and access is fully controlled.

Work from anywhere

A full corporate desktop on any device — laptop, tablet, thin client or personal machine — wherever your people are.

Instant onboarding

New hires, contractors and seasonal teams get a ready desktop in minutes — no hardware to ship, image or collect back.

Scale up and down

Pay for what you use with AVD, or fixed per-user with Windows 365 — capacity flexes with your headcount, not ahead of it.

Platforms

Virtual desktop platforms we deliver

We focus on Microsoft's cloud desktop platforms — and help you pick the right one, or the right mix, for your users.

Azure Virtual Desktop

Flexible cloud VDI

Multi-session Windows on Azure — the most flexible and cost-efficient option for scaling virtual desktops and apps.
W365

Windows 365

Cloud PC · fixed per user

A dedicated Cloud PC per user at a predictable price — the simplest way to give someone a persistent cloud desktop.

Unified management

Cloud PCs and virtual desktops managed alongside physical devices in Intune — one endpoint management approach.

How we engage

From assessment to managed cloud

01

Assess

We profile your users, apps and access needs, and recommend the right platform mix — AVD, Windows 365, or both.

02

Design & build

We architect the environment — images, networking, identity and security — and stand it up on Azure.

03

Roll out

We onboard users in waves, deliver their desktops, and tune performance so the experience feels local, not remote.

04

Manage & optimize

Ongoing scaling, image updates, cost tuning and support keep the environment fast, secure and efficient.

FAQ

Virtual desktop questions

Virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) is technology that hosts users' desktops on centralized servers or in the cloud, rather than on their local machines. Users connect to their virtual desktop from any device, but the operating system, apps and data all live and run centrally — so IT manages one environment and data never actually sits on the endpoint.
VDI is virtual desktop infrastructure you run and manage yourself, typically in your own environment. DaaS (Desktop as a Service) is the same concept delivered as a fully managed cloud service — the provider handles the infrastructure and you consume virtual desktops on subscription. Azure Virtual Desktop and Windows 365 are cloud-delivered options along that spectrum.
Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) is Microsoft's cloud VDI service on Azure. It delivers full Windows desktops and apps from the cloud, with flexible, multi-session Windows to control cost, and deep integration with Microsoft 365 and Entra ID. It's a leading choice for scalable, secure virtual desktops.
Windows 365 is Microsoft's Cloud PC service — a personal Windows desktop streamed from the cloud, billed at a fixed per-user price. Where Azure Virtual Desktop is flexible and infrastructure-like, Windows 365 is simpler and predictable: each user gets their own dedicated Cloud PC they can reach from any device.
Virtual desktops keep data off endpoints (so a lost laptop isn't a breach), let people work securely from anywhere on any device, simplify management to one central environment, and make onboarding, contractors and BYOD far easier. They're ideal for hybrid work, secure access and regulated environments.
